The biggest prank video of the year has arrived from Eastern Europe, and it is taking YouTube by storm. “Mutant Giant Spider Dog“, which Polish prankster SA Wardega released on September 4th, has notched 61 million views in four days and has cemented its place among YouTube’s most popular viral videos.

For those who haven’t seen it, the video features an adorable dog who happens to be dress in a terrifying spider costume. This combo creates an abomination that shambles across the screen and terrifies unsuspecting victims.

SA Wardega pulled off the initial premise with flawless execution, and his channel has achieved prank video nirvana as a result. The 61 million-strong view count makes “Mutant Giant Spider Dog” more popular than the most-viewed entries from Roman AtwoodVitalyzdtvPrank Vs. Prank, and any other YouTube prankster you care to name. Again, this has all happened less than a week after the video’s arrival on the Internet.

Due to the video’s rapid rise, some outlets are dubbing it the next “Gangnam Style”. “Mutant Giant Spider Dog” has no shot at reaching two billion views, but it does share a lot with both “Gangnam Style” and Ylvis’ “The Fox”. It brings an international appeal to the table and comes from a creator who was well-known even before his signature video (SA Wardega had 1.6 subscribers before this video; his subscriber count is now above 2 million.) It has an animal as its core subject, and while there is no dancing involved, “Mutant Giant Spider Dog” has a certain viral quality to it. Don’t be surprised if this video experiences a bit of a resurgence this Halloween.
