Bond Beyond Bounds: Baby Elephant Clings to the Woman Who Rescued Him from Starvation After Losing His Herd

When Moyo was just a newborn, he found himself in a dangerous situation. While trying to cross a river with his fellow herd members, the water became too strong and swept him away. Thankfully, someone came to his rescue before it was too late.

After being left behind by the older elephants, a fortunate rescue mission saved him from a pack of hyenas. The Wild Is Life animal sanctuary in Zimbabwe became his new home and he quickly formed an unbreakable bond with founder Roxy. He now refuses to let her out of his sight as their friendship, trust, and love grew stronger. Roxy explained that saying goodbye to him will be a difficult task as their extraordinary connection is one-of-a-kind. This touching tale was featured on BBC’s Nature’s Miracle Orphans documentary.

Learn more about the “Wild Is Life” Sanctuary: At our sanctuary, we strongly believe that the elephant nursery plays a crucial role in giving orphaned elephants a new lease on life. These orphans have experienced immense trauma and it is our duty to provide them with the chance to flourish and succeed in their natural habitat.

It’s not just about these people’s experiences, it’s also about spreading awareness to others. Encouraging people to think beyond themselves and connect with the wild world around them. There’s a parallel to be drawn between humans and nature.

In Chobe National Park, a group of elephants showed their protective and nurturing nature by safeguarding a young calf from becoming prey to a pack of hungry lionesses. Despite their attempts to ambush the calf, the lionesses were unable to overpower it without help.

Fortunately, the rest of the elephant herd arrived just in time to defend the vulnerable calf and chase away the predators. According to the photographer who witnessed the incident, the elephants did not seem rattled or threatened by the presence of the lions. It is clear that the calf was in good hands with such a loyal and brave herd looking after it.
