Hornbills Unite in Daring Assault on Leopards, Halting Ruthless Hunt to Safeguard Their Young

We are always confident that humans are the most advanced, intelligent and special animals, however there are some special abilities of some animals that can surprise us.

Hornbills appear elegant and graceful as they swoop and glide from their nests high in the treetops. Sarawak’s hornbills are some of the largest birds in the rainforest and from a distance can resemble a swan with a giant beak.

That day, while on the road to the destination, I heard a rustling noise somewhere, followed by sounds like an animal jumping from above to the ground.

Having a feeling that something was wrong, no one in the team told anyone to run to the bird’s nest, but it was too late. The image of each bird’s feathers flying around a part of the bird’s nest that fell to the ground makes everyone feel “shivered” when trying to imagine what happened.

Fortunately, this is a location where video cameras have been installed, so the security team does not need to speculate too much about the cause of the incident.

Looking at the video clip, we can see that right after the parents left, a leopard took the opportunity to approach the nest.

Among particularly dangerous predators, leopards are among those with the best dexterity and climbing ability.

Thanks to their very good climbing characteristics, when leopards hunt prey (antelopes, monkeys, porcupines…), they will often carry the prey and climb straight up a tree before eating it. This is to avoid being robbed of prey by other formidable predators such as lions, hyenas, African wild dogs…

With the skills given by God, the leopard in the clip does not have to spend too much effort to approach the bird’s nest and crawl into it to get the baby birds out.

When the prey are such young creatures, once caught, there will definitely be no chance to escape.
