The Oldsmobile division of General Motors built the Oldsmobile 442 as a performance option for the famous Oldsmobile Cutlass. The idea behind the 442 package was to give buyers a sporty version of the Cutlass as a daily driver or on weekends when they want to go out and have some fun. This was to try to ensure that it wasn’t driven hard every day, like many other cars of that era. The engine had more power than other Cutlasses at that time, which make this one quick car indeed. The 442 also had unique styling cues, such as aggressive wheel flares and wider tires, that have given it a timeless appeal and a huge following in the muscle car world. The Oldsmobile 442 has a powerful 330 cubic inch V8 engine that produces around 350 horsepower. It also has a four-speed manual transmission, independent rear suspension, and front disc brakes. It’s an incredibly fast car that can reach speeds of up to 120 miles per hour, which was fairly fast for the price, rivaling Ferraris and sports cars from Europe.

Today, you can find a good-condition used Oldsmobile 442, but they’re not exactly cheap because of their limited production runs. If you want a restomod version like this one, your best bet is to look for a secondhand model that needs some work done on it. Even a rusted shell will work, as most of the body panels get redesigned and will need replacing, regardless.

This Oldsmobile 442 Restomod Combines Classic With Modern

The Oldsmobile 442 is already one of the most striking muscle cars on the road since its birth and even today. It’s got a classic shape that screams “American muscle” and “oversized engines.” However, when you add modern touches like LED headlights and taillights, it becomes even more attractive than ever before.

Thanks to digital artist, Rostislav Prokop, we get treated to this Oldsmobile 442 restomod, which is the epitome of badass but in a subtle way. It has the look of a muscle car, but with modern characteristics that make it an absolute stunner to look at. The lines of this restomod 442 are gorgeous, and we mean that in a classy but knock-your-jaw-to-the-ground kind of way. The way the rear fenders flow into the rear end of this car gives it a classic and timeless look. The front grille is large and bold, which adds to the overall appeal of this muscle car. The hood is long and low, giving it an aggressive stance. And the rear has round taillights and aggressive fenders to match the front end styling cues.

There Are Many Engine Options To Consider For This Restomod

Some people like their 442s with stock power, but most like them with more power. You can get any version of the Hellcat range from Dodge, Ford Voodoo, and LS3 from GM. The engine could have either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission and can have a control panel that lets you choose between different driving modes depending on how much power you want at any given moment – street mode, track mode or drag strip mode are all possible options here.

The LS1 is also available in a wide variety of configurations and makes swapping into an Oldsmobile 442 easier than ever before. You can even find complete engine kits that include everything you need for installation, including wiring harnesses and ECU adapters and other parts like transmission mounts and oil pan adapters that make installing an LS1 into your classic muscle car much simpler than ever before.

Other options include putting a big-block Mercedes engine into your Oldsmobile 442 restomod if cruising is your way forward and if you are looking for something super rare and fast as hell, you can’t go wrong with dropping a 5-liter V10 into it – normally found in the mighty Lamborghini Gallardo. But if price is an issue, installing a turbocharged 6-liter diesel straight, will give you plenty of torque and plenty of fun.

The Oldsmobile 442 Restomod Has A Strong Chassis

The first step in building a restomod is building a strong chassis, which this one already has thanks to its original frame and suspension components. All it requires now is an upgrade of better axles, brakes, shocks and bushings, as well as a rebuild of the engine using new internals from GM Performance Parts (GMPP) or by doing an engine swap. Then, of course, you could design the fenders using 3D printing software and print them using any of the lightweight materials available for cars today like carbon fiber or aluminum.

Is This Restomod Even Possible?

Restomods are nothing new in the world of muscle cars. Some are better than others, but they all have one thing in common – they’re expensive as hell (but usually worth every penny). The idea behind this restomod is simple. Give an old muscle car a modern drivetrain and suspension, then make it look like a classic with the help of a talented team of craftsmen. It may seem like a pipe dream to some, but it’s totally possible. The technology is already here, and there are companies that specialize in building one-off parts for cars. The only question is whether you want to pay the price. We are glad that there are digital artists like Rostislav Prokop out there who can help us see beyond our imaginations.
